Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced more than $100,000 in grant awards to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs (RSVP) in Madison and Broome Counties. Congressman Talks Medicare, Social Security, and Prescription Drug Costs with Seniors in Utica

Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) visited North Utica Senior Citizens Center to host an older Americans town hall. Brindisi visited with the older Americans about issues of importance to them including the cost of prescription drugs, the stability of Social Security, and his efforts to protect Medicare.

(WBNG) -- 22nd District Representative Anthony Brindisi is helping pave the way for future protections for an aging working population.

The bill, known as the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act, looks to amend the Age Discrimination Employment Act of 1967 by providing additional protections for older Americans in the workplace.

"We don't want people being fired simply because of age. This will provide some additional protections to help older Americans from being discriminated against," said Rep. Brindisi.

ENDWELL, NY – Congressman Anthony Brindisi was also in our area today, meeting with seniors in Endwell.

The freshman Democrat held a town hall meeting this afternoon at the Broome West Senior Center.

Brindisi bragged about the bills he’s gotten passed in Congress, which he says is no easy feat for a new lawmaker.

They include legislation aimed at lowering prescription drug costs and stopping a healthcare tax from taking effect.

He says interacting with older constituents is an essential move.

Under current law, workers hoping to prove age discrimination must show that age was the sole cause for termination, compared to other workplace discrimination cases where a party only needs to prove age was one of the motivating factors.
